Blooming Onion

Servings: 5
Author: Justin Holmes

Ingredients

Blooming Onion

  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 Tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • Cooking spray

Dip

  • 2 Tbsp sour cream
  • 2 Tbsp mayo
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • *Optional 1 Tbsp horseradish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Starting out, add all the dry ingredients into a bowl and set aside. In a second bowl, mix eggs and milk.
  • Cut the top off the onion and slice the onion to make 8-16 even petals without cutting all the way through to make sure it holds together.
  • Next, toss the onion in the flour mixture, separating the petals to get complete coverage.
  • After that, roll the onion in the egg mixture until coated, returning to flour for final breading. Flip upside down and shake out excess flour coating.
  • Next, spray onion lightly with cooking spray before placing it in your Ninja Crispi on Airfry (350-375) for 20-30 minutes, stopping occasionally to respray dry spots with oil.
  • While cooking, make the sauce for dipping by combining all ingredients in a bowl and adding salt and pepper to taste.
  • Carefully remove the onion from the Crispi and let it cool 5 minutes before enjoying!
