Blooming Onion

The ultra popular appetizer option at many restaurants… the blooming onion. Here’s an easy air fryer recipe for you to save you money and make these delicious blooms at home! Your family and tummy will be thanking you.

Here’s what you’ll need to make this recipe:

Blooming Onion

  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 Tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Cooking spray

Dip

  • 2 Tbsp sour cream 
  • 2 Tbsp mayo
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp garlic
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • *Optional 1 Tbsp horseradish 
  • Salt to taste

Let’s get this show on the road!

Starting out, add all the dry ingredients into a bowl and set aside. In a second bowl, mix eggs and milk.

Cut the top off the onion and slice the onion to make 8-16 even petals without cutting all the way through to make sure it holds together.

Next, toss the onion in the flour mixture, separating the petals to get complete coverage.

After that, roll the onion in the egg mixture until coated, returning to flour for final breading. Flip upside down and shake out excess flour coating.

Next, spray onion lightly with cooking spray before placing it in your Ninja Crispi on Airfry (350-375) for 20-30 minutes, stopping occasionally to respray dry spots with oil.

While cooking, make the sauce for dipping by combining all ingredients in a bowl and adding salt and pepper to taste.

Carefully remove the onion from the Crispi and let it cool 5 minutes before enjoying!
